Run Better
Run Different
Traditional security models are no longer sufficient in an era of hybrid working and growing cyber threats. Zero Trust provides organisations with control, flexibility and peace of mind. That is why Zero Trust should be at the core of any security strategy.
Why security must be modernised
When data moves to the cloud and employees work from diverse locations and devices, perimeter-based security becomes inadequate. Zero Trust offers a modern approach where no one is granted access without verification, regardless of their location. The result is better control, reduced risk, and a security model that functions in a hybrid and cloud-based day-to-day environment.
In brief
Zero Trust is about eliminating implicit trust. Access is based on identity, context and continuous monitoring. This ensures that only authorised users and devices gain access to the resources they genuinely need.
Three core principles:
Verify explicitly – authenticate and authorise on every request.
Minimise access – grant only what is necessary (least privilege), and time-limit it where required.
Assume breach – segment, monitor and respond rapidly to contain the blast radius.
Access management as a foundation
A robust Identity and Access Management (IAM) model is a fundamental prerequisite: no users or devices are granted access without verification, regardless of whether they are “on the inside”. With contextual access control, which takes device, geography and risk into account, permissions are managed more precisely. Combined with the principle of least privilege, this delivers higher resilience against both internal and external threats compared to traditional, perimeter-based solutions.
Practical example
At our customer 7waves, Zero Trust is a central part of their security strategy. They use the model to control access to critical resources, such as licence servers in Azure. Only verified users and devices are granted access based on identity and context. The result is a solution that provides flexibility whilst simultaneously reducing the risk of unauthorised access.
Benefits for modern organisations
Zero Trust delivers clear, strategic advantages:
Reduced risk from both internal and external threats.
Better governance and insight into who has access to what, and why.
Flexibility for hybrid working models and cloud-based applications.
Simplified compliance with frameworks and requirements (e.g. NIS2, ISO 27001, GDPR) through traceability, least privilege and continuous verification.
How to get started – without disrupting operations
Zero Trust is a journey, not a one-off investment. Start where you achieve the fastest risk reduction:
Map and prioritise: Create an overview of users, devices, applications and data flows. Identify the “crown jewels” and current exceptions.
Start with strong baseline requirements: Roll out MFA broadly, and introduce conditional access based on risk and device health.
Segment and restrict: Partition networks and applications, enforce least privilege and time-bound permissions.
Monitor and automate: Use tools (such as the Microsoft Defender suite) for continuous visibility, alert handling and response.
Improve continuously: Measure compliance and efficacy (e.g. reduced unauthorised access, shorter response times), and adjust policies according to actual risk.
Zero Trust is continuous improvement
The threat landscape evolves – security should too. When Zero Trust is combined with modern tools and robust processes, organisations gain governance, scalability and predictability in a digital everyday environment that never stands still.
